We are proud of our community and all it represents. Sweetwater County is home to the largest Trona fields in North America. The oil and gas industry are major contributors to our county's success.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 10,491 square miles, of which, 10,425 square miles of it is land and 66 square miles (0.63%) of water. The largest county in Wyoming, Sweetwater County is larger than six states and is the eighth largest county nationwide (not including boroughs and census areas in Alaska). Most of the Great Divide Basin lies within the county, comprising the county's northeast quadrant.
In 2009 the estimated population of Sweetwater County was 45,000. The cities of Rock Springs, Green River, Reliance, Superior, Farson, Eden, Wamsutter, Baroil, Point of Rocks, Granger and McKinnon comprise Sweetwater County.
Sweetwater County offers year round recreation opportunities. We host the biggest county fair in WY. Other big attractions include Flaming Gorge Days, Red Desert Rodeo, Stock car races, Internation Days, Ice Sculpture Event, and many more.
